Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days! Yikes, I am going WAY out of my comfort zone to do this...both because of the level of physical exertion required, and the vulnerability I feel in sharing my story with everyone in order to raise the funds needed to help others cope with this terrible disease.
It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as hearing a doctor tell you or a loved one "you have breast cancer." It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s certainly not as hard as saying goodbye to loved ones.
For me, it all started almost 5 years ago, when I discovered a lump and knew right away what that likely meant, as I had been feeling exhausted for months. Sure enough…my doctor confirmed that I had an early stage, but aggressive form of breast cancer. After 27 chemotherapy infusions, 20 days of radiation treatment, 23 blood tests, 4 echocardiograms, 4 ultrasounds, 3 diagnostic Mammograms, 3 surgeries (including Port insertion and removal,) and countless doctor appointments, I finally finished the "active treatment" stage of my therapy in July of 2022. Along my journey, I was blessed with the most amazing team of friends, family and medical professionals to assist and cheer me on.
Despite a compromised immune system from the chemo, and a raging worldwide Covid pandemic, my incredible community, and enjoying nature walks with friends and family, were a big part of my healing. So please support me now as I walk 60 miles (gulp) to raise funds to help others combat this disease.
We are on the cusp of some incredible medical breakthroughs, and private funding is needed now more than ever before. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
My fundraising goal is $5,000, and if your company matches, that will help tremendously. If you have a loved one to honor, please note that with your donation and I will say a tribute to them along my walk… and thank you so much for your continued support, which means the world to me.
