I was diagnosed in December 2019 a few months after my first mammogram. My first mammogram at 41 years old was followed up by several ultrasounds & a couple of biopsies. I was lucky to get early detection and the cancer ”in situ”. I kept my diagnosis a secret, in denial that my life is about to change and it's not how I planned it. The career I’ve worked so hard for the past 15 years will be on hold and having my own family would be difficult.
When I was ready to face breast cancer the world shutdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. My bilateral mastectomy had to be an out patient surgery. I was lucky to have a partner in life that was able to take care of me at home and family close by that can take over at any minute we needed help. But not everyone has family support and the financial means to beat this disease and that is why I fundraise. This is why I walk, it is tough but not as tough as a breast cancer diagnosis.
I train, I walk, I will show my support to those who have fought, who are still fighting and for the ones like me, surviving.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
