Why I'm Walking
In February 2027, I will walk 60 miles over 3 days in Tampa Bay as part of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. This is more than a walk for me-it's a personal mission.
I'm walking for two incredible women who've shaped my life with their strength.
The first is my Aunt Donna, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. She faced it head-on with courage and determination. She is currently cancer free.
The second is my mother-in-law, Maria. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Despite her fight, her metastatic breast cancer ultimately took her life in October 2024. She fought with grace, humor, and fierce love until the very end. I carry her spirit with me every day.
But Maria wasn't just a fighter-she was a walker. She completed the 3-Day Walk herself, in early 2000's, in honor of her own mother, who also passed from breast cancer.
Now I walk in her memory, just as she once walked in her mother's. This is my way of continuing the path she started, step by step, mile by mile, with love guiding every part of the journey.
Why 3 Days?
Because one day isn't enough. Breast cancer doesn't stop after one day, and neither will I. I'm walking to honor the survivors, the fighters, and the ones we've lost. I'm walking for Maria. I'm walking for Aunt Donna. And I'm walking for a future where no one has to lose a loved one to this disease.
How You Can Help
To participate in the 3-Day, I've committed to raising $2,300-and every dollar will help fund lifesaving research, treatment, and support. Your donation, no matter the amount, means the world to me.
I'll be training, fundraising, and sharing every step of the way. Thank you for joining me in this fight.
With love and hope,
Betty
