We walk because we must.
We are strong because the journey demands it.
Together in body and united in spirit,
we lay down our footsteps for this generation and the next.
This is our promise: a world without breast cancer.
I saw cancer steal my mother and make me an orphan when I was barely old enough to fend for myself in the world. I have seen cancer decimate individuals and devastate families. I have had cancer invade my body and change my life. Cancer is an evil that must be stopped!
Never have I ever signed up for a 3-Day over a year and a half before the event date, but the opportunity to walk in sunny Tampa Bay Florida while it’s wintery in Pennsylvania was too exciting not to jump on first chance I had! I love that even after 20 years and 35 events, I can still revel in 3-Day “firsts.” Of course the purpose behind my 3-Day participation remains the same. I am so thankful for the life that the Susan G. Komen 3-Day has given me in the 20+ years since my breast cancer diagnosis; it is a powerful and empowering collaboration. With my retirement, I’ve been able to travel to new 3-Day destinations anytime I want. I may be getting older, but my resolve to continue walking as long as my legs (and sweep vans) can carry me is strong. I am inspired by spry walkers older than me who can walk circles around me and am motivated by the continuing need to end this evil disease that has affected far too many of my friends and family.
In 2025 my lifetime fundraising for the 3-Day rose to over $80,000. I am hoping to reach the magical $100K fundraising goal before my body gives out on me. Do I have it in me to keep going four more years and with your help raise $5000 or more each of those years? Only time and your generosity will tell, but I’m certainly willing to give it a shot! It is a lofty goal, but why not reach for the stars? It will take a lot of work and a lot of faith to attain my goal, but making miracles happen is worth the effort. We MUST do all we can to put an end to the devastation of this awful disease!
The 3-Day is much more than simply a walk; in truth it’s a “walk” that has nothing to do with the actual walking! For me the 3-Day is a state of mind and my purpose in life. The 3-Day has had as much a part in saving me as any part of the medical community did. The love, kindness, caring, and respect that the 3-Day embodies has become a way of life. The people who have come into my life through this event have become family. Not a day goes by that I fail to think about the 3-Day and the fight against all cancers. It is what I do and who I am. I am determined to maintain a steady path on the road to a cure for as long as I can and as long as I must.
The 3-Day is fueled by your dollars and by the commitment of a dedicated group of individuals united in a common cause. For me, the 3-Day provides an extraordinary bubble of love and kindness – and never fails to recharge my cancer-fighting superpowers.
This is my promise:
WE. WILL. NEVER. GIVE. UP.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
