Here I go again.. in honor of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I have again signed up for a 2nd time this year to walk 60 miles over 3 days to help find a cure for breast cancer, to assist those with cancer, and to be a part of this incredible event. As you know, this event is very near to my heart.
Many of you know that since 2001 (24 years!), I have been doing and continue to do an annual Breast Cancer 3-Day walk, usually in San Diego in November.
Last September, I got out of my comfort zone, and for the first time, signed up for a 2nd 60-mile walk in Denver. This October, as I celebrate a milestone birthday (yay Medicare!), during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I was invited to join another long-time 3-Day walker for a 60-mile "hometown 3-Day" journey next week, Oct. 12-14 (YIKES) in southern Indiana! Having just returned from hiking Hadrian's Wall in northern England, I am diligently preparing for and looking forward to these upcoming adventures... and the San Diego 3-Day walk will also be here before I know it, November 15-17. Admittedly, my fundraising is just now taking off, so I'd very much appreciate your help in achieving the $2300 fundraising minimum ASAP, enabling me to participate. Fortunately, I have committed to raise this minimum (and more) by year-end.
I did my first walk (when it was the Avon 3-Day) in 2001 when my dear friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. That initial experience was so inspiring and life-changing that I continue to walk every year since then until a cure is found!
When I started walking, my count of people was fairly small; now my list of thrivers and angels has grown too large. Too many of my friends and family have been impacted. We need to end breast cancer!
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It is hard, but it is not as hard as breast cancer. It is not as hard as radiation and chemo. It is not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It is not as hard as saying goodbye. And that is why I know I have to do this walk. That is why I am walking and why I am raising money - to end breast cancer forever.
Thank you for your continued support and especially your thoughts and prayers as I embark upon yet another 60-mile journey.
