As a little girl arrives home from school with excitement, waiting for her dad to pick her up and take her to the hospital to see her mom who has been fighting for her life against breast cancer. She hears the car doors close, her dad walks into the house with the rest of the family that have also been visiting close to his side. There's a different feeling in the air as she is told to come sit down and they tell her that her mom has passed away, she was only 8-years old.
The sense of loss is even more intense when her mother's funeral is a few days later, on her 9th birthday - a day that should be filled with joy and celebration, but instead it's marked by the overwhelming sadness of saying goodbye to her mother. It's a tragic moment, one that would stay with her for the rest of her life. That day she said goodbye to her mom as she was placed into the ground and into God's hands.
I started this adventure back in 2010 when I crossed the finish line on what would have been my mom's 55th birthday and I have been coming back every year since. This year I will be participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in both Dallas, TX. on Sweep Crew and San Diego, CA. where I will be part of the Food Service Crew. This will be my 17th year joining this amazing event as an 8-time Walker and 11th & 12th time Crew Member.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it's not as hard as breast cancer. It's not as hard as chemo. It's not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It's not as hard as saying goodbye. And that's why I know I must do this. That's why I'm walking and crewing and why I'm raising money - to end breast cancer forever.
We will leave our footprints on the hearts of others:
Mothers - Fathers - Daughters - Sons - Family - Friends - Strangers
