For as long as I can remember I have been following my mom around once a year while she walks 60 miles in three days to support the fight against breast cancer. Last year, in Boston, my dad and I cheered on my brother, Braedon, as he walked with my mom for the first time. They walked and we stalked! We all got to explore the city of Boston on foot. During the Honors Ceremony, on night 2, I saw a group of kids around my age get up on stage in front of everyone and share their “why”. Each one of them had a touching story about why they were here and why they were participating in the 3-Day as Youth Corps volunteers. That was the moment I realized that I wanted to share my story and I wanted to be involved. As the walk went on throughout the course of three days, I learned more about the 3-Day Youth Corps. This small group of kids cheered on the walkers, helped out at the pit and lunch stops, and had a personal story about breast cancer to share. The application process to be selected includes writing an essay, responding to short answer questions, being interviewed and sharing your story. I did all of that and am so excited and grateful that I was accepted into this group!
My friend, Miss Irene, is currently battling breast cancer. She is an inspiration to me, is strong, and always has a smile on her face. I admire her positive attitude and it's always fun to spend time with her. I participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Youth Corps in celebration and honor of Miss Irene.
My grandmother passed away before I was born due to breast cancer. My mom says she was competitive and filled with laughter and pure joy all the time. I wish I had the chance to make memories with her and have a special bond. I strongly believe that no kid or person should miss someone because of breast cancer. I participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Youth Corps in memory and in honor of my grandmother, Sandee.
If you would like to make a donation to help me reach my fundraising commitment of $750, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
Love,
Genevieve
