Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers!
This August, I am headed to Boston for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk against breast cancer, but I won’t be walking alone. I’ll be alongside a two-time breast cancer survivor, the strongest woman I know, and someone I am blessed to call mom. The walk spans 60 miles over 3 days, and while this is my first time walking, it’ll be her 12th. 12 walks. 60 miles each. 720 miles. 720 miles (plus A LOT of early morning training) spent fighting for a cure to the same cruel disease she battled twice herself, and I am excited to join for the next 60.
I was only two when my mom was first diagnosed and didn’t quite understand the word “cancer,” but I felt the effects. When her cancer returned at the start of my freshman year of high school, I understood all too well. I saw the chemo, the surgery recoveries, the hospital visits, the fear, but also the resilience, the grace, and the fight that never gave up. I saw a mom who was going to show up for her family even on her hardest days. One who would still never miss a swim meet, tennis match, or a chance to celebrate a friend. Breast cancer has never been a distant cause or story for me, it’s real and it's personal. And I can assure you that every dollar given to this cause is felt by the families affected.
That’s why I’m walking this year. For my mom. For the thousands of women and families still in the fight. And for the hope that one day, no woman or family will face that fight again.
I’m ready for my walking tour of Boston and have an awesome team to keep me company, but I need your help to hit my fundraising goal of $2300. Every dollar donated supports research, treatment, education, and hope for those facing breast cancer!
I would be so grateful to have your support in any way you are able, whether it’s a donation, a prayer, sharing my page, or just cheering us on from afar.
See you soon, Boston!
With gratitude,
Kaitlyn
