My mom and I crossing the finish line at the 2023 New England 3-Day!
My mom and I crossing the finish line at the 2023 New England 3-Day!

This upcoming August I will be walking 60 miles as a part of my 7th 3-Day.

When I first joined the Youth Corps back in 2017, I was a stranger to the 3-Day and a stranger to the effects of breast cancer. I am not a stranger to either anymore.

Over the years, I have tried to explain the 3-Day countless times, but words always fall short. The Pink Bubble is truly a community like no other, full of kind and dedicated people who are all there for their own reasons, but all working towards the same common goal–a world without breast cancer. It is a place where creativity is celebrated, positivity is the norm, and no one feels like a stranger. That community is part of what draws me back again and again, but it certainly is not the only reason.

Every year, I seem to have more names to add to the list of who I walk for. Aunts, family friends, moms of teammates, all facing a diagnosis that is scary, no matter how early on the cancer is found. It is not an understatement to say that I owe the lives of many of my loved ones to research done with money raised by walkers who came before me. I walk to continue to pass on that favor. For though our knowledge about breast cancer and treating it have come a long way since my Aunt Jan lost her fight over 20 years ago, we still have work to do. And I will not stop walking until the words “you have breast cancer” are no more terrifying than “the strep test came back positive” or “you need to get a cavity filled".

And this is where I ask for your support. Not only will your donation support me as I take on the challenge of walking 60 miles in 3 days this summer (which, speaking from experience, is no easy feat), but it has the potential to literally save lives. Every cent makes a difference!
