MY STORY
In 2001, at the age of 41, I was diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer, stage IIIB. Later that same year, my only sister was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Our maternal grandmother was a 35+ year breast cancer survivor at that time. Needless to say, breast cancer has had a significant impact on my family. After six months of surgeries, chemo, and radiation, I began training for my first 3-Day walk which coincided with the one year anniversary of my diagnosis. It was an incredible experience that challenged me, humbled me, and created my addiction for walking! Over the years I have met many incredible people, with even more incredible stories, and I look forward to making more new friends in 2025.
I will walk the DFW 3-Day, October 24th-26th and the San Diego 3-Day, November 14th-15th. I'm also going to crew the New England 3-Day, August 15th-17th. Of course, I'll need your support again mentally, physically, and financially). I have completed 13 3-Day events as a walker. For those of you that aren't familiar with the Komen 3-Day walks, the participants walk approximately 20 miles a day for 3 days. That's 60 miles! I also must raise a minimum of $2,300 for each event as a walker. Please donate what you can and help spread the word by sharing my story (and website) with your family, friends, and co-workers.
BENEFITS OF THE 3-DAY FUNDS
The 2024 Susan G. Komen 3-Day Series raised over $13 million in the fight against breast cancer! All those donations add up!
Since 2003, the Komen 3-Day has raised more than $915 million. Komen has transformed how the world treats and talks about this disease and have mobilized the largest and most passionate community. Since 1982, we've funded nearly $1.1 billion in research, more than $2.5 billion in education, screening and treatment, serving millions in over 60 countries worldwide. The funds raised by passionate Komen 3-Day supporters and participants are used to invest in cutting-edge research that will lead to new and more effective treatments, working in communities across the country to ensure all people can access the care they need, and mobilizing passionate supporters to make certain the voice of the breast cancer community is heard by policymakers.
