I'm sure everyone...sometime in their life...has been impacted by the horrible disease of cancer. Maybe you knew someone who is currently fighting it, has had it and survived...or passed away because of it. I'm one of those people, I know people who have survived, who are currently fighting the battle and who have lost their fight. This is my story of how cancer has impacted me and how I am joining thousands of people around the United States to raise money to find a cure.
When I heard my niece Mel had a very aggressive form of cancer, I felt helpless and wanted to help in anyway I could. So I put together a team of amazing women and we are going to walk 60 miles in 3 days all for her!
Mel is doing good, she has had a double mastectomy the last week of April, but currently is cancer free. She has a long road to recovery, after her 6 times of double chemotherapy (that's 8 hours of chemo), she still needs 6 weeks of 5 times a week radiation but the outlook is good! She is strong, she is a fighter and she will win this battle. But I want to make sure she is the norm not one of the lucky ones.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
Becoming apart of the "Pink Bubble", as people who walk the 3-Day are referred to by, was such an amazing experience! It was Day two, 40 miles completed when I was in the massage chair sitting next to my best friend Amy, who joined me for the walk, when she asked if I was ready to commit for next years walk. I did not hesitate and we signed up right and then!
