In 2007, I heard those dreadful words “you have cancer.” I proceeded to have three surgeries, 16 chemotherapy infusions, and 34 radiation treatments. From mammogram to last radiation was nine months. I had 144 medical appointments; lost hair, fingernails and toenail and was fired from my job because I couldn’t work over 32 hours a week. Our 2007 was consumed with my breast cancer treatment.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention my sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother also had breast cancer. I have had genetic testing twice. There are currently no known breast cancer genes in my testing. This means there is much more to discover. I fight this cause for my aunt, for my sister, my cousins, my nieces!
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. I have committed to a four-day assignment as a crew member to support all those who walk. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m going and crewing and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
