I will be part of the “Pink Bubble” for three days in November. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days in San Diego. Yes, 60 miles! This is my second time doing the 3-Day walk, and I’m giving it my all as a way to raise money for such a good cause and to honor those who’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer and those we have lost.
Last year, I walked with many breast cancer survivors and thrivers. On day three, my left knee and both feet were hurting, but in front of me was a woman in a bright pink T-shirt with this on the back: "I'm ALIVE today because of people like you. Thank you!" That message kept me going on day 3. I know the 3-day walk will once again be a challenge, but I do this walk because of those whose lives we can save.
In recent years, there have been great advancements in breast cancer research and treatment, but much more needs to be done. I’ve lost friends and family to breast cancer; some of my close friends have gone through treatment or are going through it now. Being high risk myself, I feel fortunate to have taken measures to radically reduce my risk of breast cancer, but others have not been as fortunate. I know the 3-Day walk will be grueling, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad and scary news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That's why I'm walking and why I'm raising money--to end breast cancer forever.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. Any amount you can give is appreciated. THANK YOU!
