Dear Friends and Family,

18 years ago, my friend Melody Maziar and I started a team called Angels 4 Angels to raise funds for the Susan G Komen 3-day 60-mile walk. It has been 15 years since my last walk. (Covid cancelled us in 2020!) I’m happy to say that some of the team members have continued walking as Angels 4 Angels. Our team has raised well over $1 million for breast cancer.

Sue Rothstein, the co-captain, contacted Melody and me to participate in this year's event. This year is special because it marks the 18th anniversary of the team with 18 representing "Chai" or Life in Hebrew, symbolizing good luck and prosperity.

As much as I wanted to walk, I did not!!  I had all the excuses - I am still working, I’m busier than ever, I am a lot older with knee and hip problems, and of course I want to spend more time with my 2 grandkids. Since I registered, I have had rotator cuff surgery; So, training for the walk has been a challenge! 

I would like to honor two friends battling breast cancer. Many of you may know Janis Greenfield, the former Assistant to the Education Director at our synagogue, who was closely involved with our children and is known for her vibrant personality. 

Annie Prager is the daughter-in-law of Melody’s boyfriend. She is the mother of a 19-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter. Annie demonstrates remarkable determination and resilience as she navigates her cancer diagnosis. Despite facing significant challenges, she consistently maintains a positive outlook, exemplifying strength and perseverance.  

Susan G. Komen has contributed to a 44% decline in the breast cancer death rate, attributed to advances in detection and treatment. The organization has provided over $1 billion in funding for breast cancer research and offers support to uninsured and underserved individuals.  

As I reflected on these memories and the impact our team has had, I was struck by how the fight against breast cancer is not just a distant cause—it’s a deeply personal journey for me and so many people I care about. I am so fortunate to be a 2-time Breast Cancer survivor.  Every step we take is for those battling now, for those we remember, and for hope itself.
