Hello Friends,
Please support me as I commit to my 8th walk. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye.
There is so much that still needs to be done. Every 10 minutes someone is diagnosed with breast cancer. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their life time. I have met many people along the walks I've done and their stories strengthen my desire to continue to walk.
As I talk more with friends and coworkers, I hear their stories, too. Ones that I wouldn't hear if I hadn't worn a pink shirt about breast cancer or walk down the hallway after school with my pink ribbon skirt, breast cancer shirt and hat with my backpack filled with water on my back as I start to walk home for the day. The more awareness that is out there, I hope, there are more people getting mammograms and not being quiet or embarrassed to talk about it.
Any donation amount is needed: $25 helps buy research supplies or supplies for advocates educating lawmakers; $50 can provide gas for a person to get to their next treatment appointment; $150 could buy groceries for a week for someone going through treatment; $400 could go into Komen's Financial Assistance Program that helps people in treatment pay their bills. Raising at least $2300 helps me go to San Diego to walk with hundreds of people raising awareness.
If you would like to tell me a name in the comments of a person you would like me to honor on my walk, please to so. I will write their name down and read the names I get as I walk.
Thank you,
Amy
