Our 3-Day journey began in 2014. My wife, Joan, made a commitment to her childhood friend, Lori, who had just been diagnosed with Stage 4, metastatic breast cancer. The commitment was to help find a cure any way she could. Joan walked in her first 3-Day (Twin Cities) later that year and became a team leader and training walk leader in 2015.
Sadly, Lori passed in 2017. A year later, Joan was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer and was just finishing treatments when she walked the 2018 Twin Cities 3-Day as a Survivor.
I joined 3-Day crew in 2016-2018, and walked the 3-Day in 2019, 2021 and 2024. I am walking again in 2025 in honor of my wife, in memory of Lori, and in honor or memory of so many women I know who have fought this disease.
The Susan G. Komen organization has been a very positive force in driving research, raising awareness, increasing patient outreach, and building a strong community of support. The 3-Day events bring a lot of focus to the needs and a lot of motivation for people to help meet the needs. Every dollar, every step, every tear and every hug make a difference.
