This year marks 10 years for my Komen team, Hands up for Hooters, and as an OG Hooter, I knew I had to come back for this 3Day! I'm looking forward to reconnecting with my team, doing my 5th official 3Day, and raising funds for an amazing cause.
One of my biggest sources of inspiration was my Aunt Patty. She was one of our biggest cheerleaders, and would be celebrating this landmark year with us, if she were still here. Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer in early spring of 2020...again. She'd beaten it 15 years prior, and was thriving until this diagnosis. That was quickly followed by a mastectomy, and multiple rounds of chemo. They got all the cancer, and the chemo was supposed to help lower the chances of the cancer coming back. She was a warrior through it all, keeping a positive attitude, and still making everyone laugh. And we thought she'd come through it. Aside from being tired, Auntie Patty seemed to be doing great. She was back at work with us at Lyon/Windermere, and was ready to kick 2021's butt. Then she passed away unexpectedly on Valentine's Day. While cancer wasn't the direct cause of her passing, it was definitely a contributing factor. We lost a vibrant, loving, inspiring, independent, stubborn, generous, kind, and funny woman, and I feel that loss every day, but am heartened by all the wonderful memories, and by being surrounded by so many who love her and keep her memory alive. I can't believe that we've lived 4 years without her in our lives, without hearing her laughter or getting her hugs. She is SO very missed.
Patty was always a huge supporter of my Komen walks, and was always one of my first donors. She would be touched to know that she lives on in so many of us, in so many ways. I dedicate this 3-Day walk to her, to my Auntie Patty.
I hope you'll support me in honoring Aunt Patty, with a tax deductible donation. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, please feel free to share it with others!
