Why I’m Walking: I Can Do Big Things. I Can Do Hard Things.
This is a personal challenge to myself. Sixty miles over three days is no small feat—especially for someone who’s not exactly known for being physically active. (Let’s just say the longest walk I’ve done is five miles—and that was probably downhill.) But I believe in living in happiness. I’ve been told I live in “Disneyland,” I do try to create a life that feels joyful and full of possibility.
I first learned about the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in 2009, and it stuck with me. For years, I quietly wondered if I could do it—if I could be one of those people. Brave, committed, unstoppable. This year, I decided to stop wondering and start walking.
I’m lucky—I haven’t lost anyone to breast cancer. But I know survivors, and I carry their names with me. I walk because I hope I never have to face breast cancer. I walk because I hope no one I love ever has to again. I walk because I can do big things. I can do hard things. And I want to be part of something bigger than myself—step after step, mile after mile.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
