I’ve been participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day since 2004, and over 25 events. But in 2009 it became personal. I found a lump in my right breast. Thinking it was no big deal, I sat on it for a month thinking it would disappear. A month later it was still there, so I decided to make an appointment for a mammogram. After much testing, it was determined that a mastectomy, followed by reconstruction was my best option. Thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones! Along my journey, I have heard stories of victory and of loss. I have met survivors, right out of treatment, and others that are 10 years and counting. I've met husbands who have lost their wives, and mothers who have lost their daughters. These are just a few reasons why I remain passionate about keeping a promise to do everything possible to end the suffering caused by breast cancer.
Thanks to each of you who have supported me over the years and have stayed with me contributing year after year to see the eventual demise of cancer. I look forward to a day I will be writing about certain cures and we will celebrate together, as you will have contributed to the reason effective and gentle treatments are discovered.
Please take care and keep yourself healthy. You are all special people in my life.
