Hello Family and Friends,
As many of you know, 22years ago I was diagnosed with aggressive StageIII breast cancer. Sometimes it feels like only yesterday when I heard the words “you have breast cancer”. A lumpectomy, chemotherapy, a subsequent mastectomy, radiation and a lifesaving year of Herceptin treatment followed.
Every year about this time, when I start to compose my message to all of you, signaling the beginning of my fundraising in the fight against breast cancer, I sit at my computer, wondering what in the world I am going to write. What more can I say to you that I haven’t said so many times before.
After all, this will be my 22nd walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, 60 Mile Walk for the cure. And every single year that I have walked 20miles a day for 3days my wonderful husband Win, (the best husband in the world) has been a crew member. A much harder job than walking.
And every year, you, my family and good friends (old and new) all wonderful humans, have come through. We have raised a grand total of $353,000 together, making me one of the top 10 lifetime fundraisers in Susan G. Komen history.
I am amazed every time I think about that number, and I am so grateful that I have been the conduit for your overwhelming generosity.
My fundraising goal this year is $25,000. I want to hit a lifetime fundraising goal of $375,000 this year!!!
Mine is a story of determination and survivorship, some are stories of hope and struggle. And then there are the other stories. The tragic ones, far too many of them. Many women and men walked before me. There’s no doubt they saved my life, and I’m going to do the same for someone else.
This is why I walk and will continue to.
So please, donate to the cause. Every year I tell you ANY AMOUNT is a step closer to much needed funds for research, clinical trials, better screening, and more advanced and successful chemotherapies. YOUR DOLLARS SAVE LIVES. YOUR DOLLARS SAVE MY LIFE. It’s as simple as that. Do it today for every woman (and man) you know and love.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued support year after year. I’m overwhelmed by your love and friendship.
With Love, Liz (and Win too).
