On August 15, 16 & 17 our team, The Corncobs for a Cure, will be hitting the streets of Boston to walk 20 miles each day. Yes, you did the math correctly - that is a total of 60 miles.
You might ask - Why?
It is really hard to come up with a good reason to walk 20 miles a day. It sounds ridiculous because it is. However, our team is composed of people who not only love crazy challenges, but also believe in using our time and energy to support a greater cause.
For our team, this walk is very personal and there are three main reasons we are doing this:
1. We walk because we grieve. This year we lost a friend our age to breast cancer and we know too many others who are in the midst of the battle.
2. We walk for a cure. We are raising money to fund research focused on breast cancer. The rise of breast cancer rates in younger women is staggering and we need research to outpace those rates.
3. We walk because we can. We know that walking 60 miles won't cure breast cancer. But it is a recognition of how amazing the human body is and how important it is that we care for it well- as well as raise awareness for the things we are all still learning together.
We are named the Corncobs for a Cure as a nod to our friend Misha, who loved all things Iowa. We think that Cancer Shucks and we hope you will support us on this journey.
