This August, my friend Leslie and I are joining thousands of others in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, a 60-mile walk over three days to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. This cause is deeply personal to both of us, as so many of our loved ones have been touched by this disease.
I’m especially proud to share that my daughter Amanda and her friend Jacque are also taking part—as members of the crew supporting walkers like us throughout the event. It means the world to see the next generation stepping up for such an important cause.
My greatest inspiration for walking is my sister, Noreen. In 2023, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, it was detected early during a routine mammogram, but she still faced surgery and radiation. Watching her endure the emotional and physical toll was heartbreaking. Our family felt every wave of fear, pain, and hope alongside her. No one should have to go through that.
I'm also walking for the many friends of mine who have been diagnosed in recent years—brave women who fought and survived. And I walk in memory of my Aunt Nula, who was diagnosed at just 35 years old. She fought hard but sadly lost her battle.
This walk will be a challenge—but it’s nothing compared to what so many face every day. It’s not as exhausting as chemotherapy. It’s not as nerve-wracking as waiting on test results. And it’s not as devastating as losing someone you love.
That’s why I walk:
To honor survivors.
To remember those we’ve lost.
To raise funds for research, support, and prevention—so that one day, we can live in a world without breast cancer.
Will you help me reach my fundraising goal? Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to that day.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and encouragement.
