This upcoming August my friends and I should be making the annual trek to Iowa for the Lone Tree Fall Fest. The Lone Tree Fall Fest was one of my friend Misha's favorite events - we would participate in the Agriculture Challenge, the egg toss, and march in the local parade. It was always ridiculous and always fun. (Oh, and hot. It is always hot.)
This year will be different. Misha is not with us anymore to help lead the Iowa shenanigans. Our hearts our broken and our spirits heavy. So in place of cornfields and the Lone Tree Fun Run, some of us have decided to channel our grief toward a greater cause. Too many of our friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family members are in a ruthless battle with breast cancer and we need to continue to fund vital research to put an end to this nonsense.
My team and I (Corncobs for a Cure) have committed to hitting the streets of Boston August 15, 16 & 17 to walk 20 miles each day. (Yes, that is a total of 60 miles. 57 more miles than the Lone Tree Fun Run).
Part of this is a healing journey for us, part of this is an awareness journey, and part of this is channeling funds to a cause we fervently support.
It will be hot. We will be tired. I will be grumpier than everyone.
But we will walk anyway because Cancer Shucks and every woman deserves a cure.
Your support for my team and I is deeply appreciated.
-Tracey (aka CornNut)
