Hi, my name is Madeline, I'm 14, and this will be my 2nd year on Youth Corp (last year I participated in Denver). My mom will be walking for the 3rd time, my sister will be on Youth Corp for the first time, and my dad will be crewing for the first time (all in Boston).
The fight against breast cancer is something many people have contributed to, but for my family, it's even more personal. At the start of Covid, in 2020, my mom was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. It was hard for everyone in my family the next few months, no one knowing what would come next, what would happen; but we stayed as strong as we could, helped my mom in every possible way. In November of that year, she had what we all hoped to be her last treatment. For eight months we hoped but were unsure whether she was officially cancer free, then July of 2021, my mom's cancer metastasized to her brain. The tumor was removed and as far as we know her cancer hasn't spread since, but because the cancer had metastasized, she will never be officially cancer free.
Please support me as I help to commit to an incredible challenge. As I mentioned, I will be on the New England Youth Corp, crewing for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news after a loved one's latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m crewing and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
Here are the pages for my mom and younger sister, Aisling.
