One case of breast cancer is diagnosed in the U.S. every two minutes. In fact, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Those on the receiving end of those diagnoses have been my family, my friends, my co-workers, and my community.
Last summer my friend and fellow pirate, Denise, received her diagnosis. She is now part of a community of over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. – thankfully, she is cancer-free due to advancements made by organizations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Komen has funded more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit – totaling almost $1.1 billion. And their efforts have paid off. From 1989 to 2022, the breast cancer mortality rate has decreased by 44% due to improved breast cancer treatment and early detection.
I ask you now to consider supporting us and the many women (and men) around us who have been affected by breast cancer. Will you make a donation to Susan G. Komen Foundation on behalf of our team, Pink Pirates in Boston? Your support means so much, and donations of any amount are welcomed and appreciated.
And be sure to listen to the Pirate Life Podcast (linktr.ee/thepiratelife) for updates on our fundraising efforts and training!
If you are unable to donate online, please print out a donation form.
