I am very passionate about raising money to end breast cancer because I am a survivor myself. In April 2018, I was diagnosed with hormone receptor positive breast cancer at age 31. I do not have a family history or the specific genes that are known to cause breast cancer. I underwent surgery to remove the tumor and was fortunate enough to only be required to do radiation. Afterwards, I was placed on medication for 5 years to reduce my risk of reoccurrence. This medication required month injections to suppress any hormones in my body and a daily pill (a daily reminder). I was able to stop this treatment July 2023. I was sent for mammograms and MRI every 6 months. In January 2024 after my first MRI after stopping the medication, some abnormal cells appeared. I was hit once again with the decision to have surgery and be put back on medication. I elected to have a double mastectomy and DIEP breast reconstruction surgery in June 2024 and October 2024. It has been a difficult recovery but I am strong.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
