Join me in the fight against breast cancer.

Please support me as I commit to a challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. For those walking it, it will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. That said, MANY of the walkers HAVE breast cancer. They walk for themselves. They walk for each other. They walk for those who don’t have it yet but will one day. They walk for their sons and daughters, nieces and nephews…those walking the earth and those yet to come. Those who don’t have breast cancer walk in the hopes that they or their loved ones will never experience it. They walk because they simply will NOT ACCEPT that one in eight women will end up with breast cancer. That’s 125,000 out of every one million women in this country and it’s unacceptable. It’s bullshit. And a group of passionate and committed people are doing something about it, because they feel they must. Many have done multiple events. In the same year! And for over a decade. Because they know it’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why they know they have to do this. That’s why they commit. That’s why they walk and why they raise money – to end breast cancer forever.

So why the heck am I here? I’m here because in 2010 I made a promise to my friend Nancy…who I had known for 42 of the 47 years she had lived on this earth at that time. To that total she would add just one more. I promised her that I would do something about this beast that was sucking the life out of her while I had the breath of life in me. The beast gave her no quarter and she asked for none. Instead, she fought ferociously and never let the disease define her. Yes, it crushed her body but it never, ever, crushed her spirit. In the 15 years since, I’ve done many of these events, first as a walker and now as a crew member. I’ve since gotten to know many survivors who are still fighting. Some are in remission. Some have since gone Home. Some who were totally healthy when I met them and began walking with them have since come under the shadow of the beast. Again, it gives no quarter and they ask for none. Instead…they fight.

In August 2025, I will be in Boston as part of the Medical Admin crew. My job will be to help the walkers through the initial stages of their visit to Medical…so that I can get them to the right person who can help them and therefore free up the Medical crew to do the things they do best. I'll also be there to guide them to and through self care. Having walked many of these events, I will be there for the walkers and do everything I can to help make their experience the best it can be.

My fundraising goal is $100. That’s all I’m asking for…as the remainder of my efforts will be to help raise funds for walkers…especially the new ones…who are the future of this event until it’s no longer needed. And it will no longer be needed when the beast is defeated. Once and for all.

That’s my story. That’s OUR story. Please support me so I can support others. May God bless you and all those you love.

Many thanks,

David Golias
