"Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people, with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it..." - Wilferd Peterson
18 years ago, I signed up to walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day after I lost one of my closest friends to breast cancer. Little did I know, taking that first step in 2007 would lead me to some of my life's greatest gifts. Susan G. Komen became my soft place to land after my loss and over the years I've walked hundreds of miles and raised over $57,000 which has made a difference in the lives of people living with breast cancer.
So much has changed in those 18 years...I've watched my friend's daughters grow into amazing young women; I've watched many more friends and loved ones hear the words "you have breast cancer." and while significant advances have been made that enable those impacted with breast cancer to live longer, better lives, we still have a long way to go.I've set an ambitious goal of raising $8,000 this year. I know with your help we can reach that goal. This will bring my lifetime fundraising for Susan G. Komen to $65,000, at a time that our services are needed more than ever.
65% is the increase in requests our Financial Assistance Program experienced last year, and we expect those requests to increase even more this year.
It's not lost on me that I'm surrounded but some of the most generous people. That I couldn't accomplish these crazy goals of trying to make at least a little corner of the world a little bit better without you. I also know that nothing worth doing is worth doing alone, so thank you, for coming along on this journey with me!
I hope you'll consider supporting my efforts, and helping to get us one step closer to a world without breast cancer.
