We are preparing for the 2025 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk and this year we are headed back to Boston in August. We last walked in Boston in 2019 and it was very memorable, so we are looking forward to returning. This will be my 18th walk and the earliest in the year that we have participated in one…we are hoping it won’t be too hot!
The Susan G. Komen organization continues to lead the fight against breast cancer. Komen has funded more breast cancer research during their history than any other nonprofit (nearly $1.1 billion to date, second only to the U.S. government). They have contributed to a 44% decline in the breast cancer death rate in the U.S. between 1989 - 2022 due to improvements in early detection and effective treatment. Komen also focuses on supporting people who are uninsured, underserved and with lower incomes who are unable to access care.
However, despite all of that effort and progress, nearly 320,000 people in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025 and one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In 2025, nearly 43,000 people in the U.S. are expected to die from breast cancer. And sadly, breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer death for women ages 20-49.
So…this is why we continue to walk. So much progress, but still so far to go. My friends, family and coworkers who donate have been so generous over the years and I am so grateful. Please consider donating again this year to help save this generation and the next. To save families from the agony of watching a loved one battle this disease.
Thank you so much for your support and good wishes again this year.
Karen
