Hi, I'm Emerson.  I am middle school student from Indiana.  This is my first year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day.  I am hoping to raise money for breast cancer research and treatments.  This is important to me because I have the effects of breast cancer in my life. 

When I was a baby my Aunt Jenn died from breast cancer.  She was only 31 years old when she passed. Although I met her, I was still a baby and I don't have any memories of her.  My Aunt Jenn has 3 girls.  They were 9 months, 9 years, and 12 years old when their mom died.  I am sad I didn't get to know her, and I am also sad that my cousins had to endure the pain of losing their mom when they were so young. I'm hoping the money I raise can help prevent these types of things from happening to other families.

Additionally, about a year ago my favorite teacher who taught me in kindergarten and 1st grade (and still tutors me today), was diagnosed with breast cancer. Money from the Susan G Komen 3 Day Walk helped fund a study that determined whether or not she would need chemo.  I am thankful that she didn't need it, and was able to avoid unnecessary treatments. That experience helped me understand even more how badly the threat of cancer can be. It also helped me realize how much the walk is really helping to create a cure and prevent additional hardships to someone who may be already struggling.  Ms. Linda has been a very important person in my life.  She is one of my favorite people in this world, and I am so grateful that Susan G. Komen (and those who donate) have helped her stay in my life.
