This year marks my 16th year of walking the 3 Day to raise money and awareness to fight breast and other cancers. Many of you know that my mom, Jinny, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (invasive lobular carcinoma) in August of 2008. It was a shock to all of us, as she had been diagnosed and treated for thyroid cancer a few years prior. Unfortunately, mom's thyroid cancer came back twice, and she ultimately lost her fight. On May 31st, 2012, she left us just two days before my wedding to soar with the eagles.
We lost my dad suddenly a few years ago, on September 19, 2021, another devastating event. He had always been a big supporter of the walk and my fundraising efforts, even pulling the neighbors together to create a cheer station for Team Boobilicious when the route went past his house. While he isn't here to cheer us on anymore, I know both of my parents are watching over me as I continue this journey, and I hope they are proud.
I walk to honor the memory of my mom, and for all of the other beautiful women and men in my life who are fighting the fight against cancer, and to honor the lives of those we've lost along the way. I wear bracelets for each and every person I walk for, and each year my bracelet stack gets bigger and bigger. I want to stop adding to it, and I won't walk away from this walk until there is an end to breast and other cancers.
Please join me in my fight to end this battle once and for all. Your support will help me walk to fight breast and other cancers. Please consider any amount, it all adds up and helps me reach my goal. All support and encouragement means so much!
This fight isn't just about finding a cure, it's about supporting all of those around us who have seen the effects of cancer. Here's to another fantastic 60 miles!
Jeanne d'Arc be by my side
Jinny's Story
My mom, Jinny, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Papillary Thyroid cancer in October 2004. She had her thyroid and 30+ lymph nodes in her neck and breast bone removed. She received radioactive iodine therapy and was considered cancer free.
In August 2008, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Lobular Breast cancer, found during a routine mammogram. She had a bi-lateral mastectomy to stop the disease from spreading to her healthy breast.
In October 2009, 2 weeks short of 5 years thyroid cancer free, enlarged lymph nodes were found in her neck and chest, confirmed to be Papillary Thyroid cancer.
In December 2010, a lung biopsy confirmed metastasis to her lungs and her cancer was upgraded to Stage 4.
At the Mayo Clinic, she tried a clinical study and two types of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this disease was bigger than anything she could throw at it. Mom had so much hope, strength and courage even during her last days with us.
On May 31, 2012, mom soared up on eagles wings to watch over and protect us, 2 days before my wedding. I know I had my own guardian angel watching over my special day. I love you, mom!!
