2025 will mark my 21st year walking in the Susan G Komen 3-Day for a Cure. My passion to help find a cure will continue until we live in a world without cancer. I am so very grateful to all of you for your support and love and hope you will consider a donation again in 2025.
Why I walk - In 1997, I was diagnosed with Stage 3b triple negative breast cancer. After a modified radical mastectomy, 6 months of chemo and 35 rounds of radiation, I was cancer free. 1998 began our Susan G Komen involvement when we created Robb's Ralliers and started to raise funds and awareness as we participated in the Twin Cities Race for a Cure. We've continued to participate every year since! In 2004, I had the opportunity to walk in my first 3-Day walk and was committed to doing more in the fight against cancer. In 2005 after my 2nd walk, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer again, but this time, it was caught early. Surgery and recovery slowed me down, but it also fueled my commitment. I am blessed to be a survivor and do not take life for granted.
As a survivor, I have had the privilege and honor to meet so many amazing survivors who have followed a similar path as mine. I have also met many wonderful fighters who are no longer with us, who left a permanent mark on my heart, and I will forever walk in their memory. Every year, I find someone to dedicate my walk to, while also keeping all those touched by this horrible disease with me as well. This year I dedicate my Denver walk in honor of my former Target colleague and friend, Cherie. Cherie was recently diagnosed with early stage Breast Cancer and will be undergoing a mastectomy and chemo in the coming months.
My 2021 walk was dedicated to my dear friend TC who was facing her stage 4 diagnosis with grace and strength. TC inspired me to be my best, bringing a positive approach to every day. My 2022 walks were dedicated to her memory as we lost TC on December 11, 2021. I was honored to be her friend and look forward to continuing to make an impact toward research and funding, as well as raising awareness in TC's memory. My commitment to finding a cure is strengthened almost every day, as I continue to meet knewly diagnosed individuals. While I am saddened by the new diagnoses, I continue to hold onto hope that the progress being made is making a difference! Each dollar raised goes towards research that helps fund new treatments, advancements in early detection and utlimately better outcomes.
In 2025, I plan to walk all 4 events - Denver (August 1-3), New England (August 15 -17), Dallas (October 24-26), and San Diego (November 14-16) - 240+ miles! If you've been thinking about walking, please reach out. I'd love to share stories and help you with your journey.
