The older I get, the more people I know who have had breast and other types of cancers. For each person, it is truly a fight. My personal journey with breast cancer was in 2012. I am happy to report that I am cancer free and able to celebrate many milestones such as watching my son and other family members grow into adulthood. In October, I will celebrate my 60th birthday. On that same weekend, I will be walking 60 miles with the Gwynne's Friends Team as my personal celebration - one mile for each year I have lived. This will be my second walk with the team. Gwynne was an incredible lady who fought her battle with dignity, courage and a spirit that touched all those she knew. Whether it be all of my coworkers, my USNA sisters, family members, team members and friends who have fought the cancer diagnosis, I am amazed by the resilience and warrior spirit of each person. Research must continue until this disease is eradicated.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
