Since 2017 I have walked to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. My mom, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and several friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer. This cause has always been very personal for me.
Now it is even more personal since I am a survivor. I was extremely lucky that my diagnosis was caught early. I had the benefits of years of research, a great health care system and insurance.
I am walking these 60 miles with more determination than ever:
- Because over 316,950 women and men in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025.
- Because over 42,000 women and men in the US will die of breast cancer this year.
- Because Susan G. Komen has funded more breast cancer research and clinical trials than any other nonprofit.
- Because Susan G. Komen supports those with the fewest resources, the uninsured, underinsured and low-income women and men with screening and diagnostic services and financial assistance to those in treatment.
- Most importantly, I walk in the hope that my children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces will never have a breast cancer diagnosis.
Please support me as I walk to end breast cancer forever. You can support me in many ways:
- Walk with me. There is still plenty of time to train and every blister saves a sister! It is a difficult journey, but not has hard as breast cancer.
- Meet me at the finish line on October 26. You will be inspired by the determination of all the walkers who walk 60 miles and the stories of those who are walking as survivors or for loved ones. You will be moved as all the participants bend a knee and raise a shoe to silently honor those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.
- Donate to my walk by June 1. Donations can be made online by visiting my personal page www.the3day.org/goto/sandyrigsby or by printing and completing the donation form on this page and sending it to the address in the box on the right of the form.
If you are unable to donate online, please print out a donation form.
