Hello family and friends. I have committed to walk in my 6th year Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk this year in Dallas, TX. Our family has been affected by this disease since my grandmother was diagnosed in May of 1982 and lost her battle with it just a few short months later. I was only 9 years old when she passed, so I had no idea what was happening to her. All I knew was that she was sick and had something called breast cancer. I knew very little about the disease because people simply did not talk about it. I didn?t learn that there are so many different types of breast cancers or how many people are diagnosed each year and how even men can be diagnosed until I was in my 30?s. Each year, the list of people I know personally who are affected grows and this is why I have become so passionate about trying to help find a cure. The funds raised not only go to the research and development of treatments, but a portion of it will go to people battling the disease. People who can't afford their medications, chemo, or radiation. It will also help people with transportation and lodging if needed. The stories we have heard along the walk are heartwarming and gut wrenching all at the same time. Walking 60 miles is hard, but breast cancer is harder. So I ask that you support me and my team as we continue to raise money to see a world without breast cancer.
