In February 2015, it was an iced over day in Texas. My mom's doctor called her to have her come into their office to go over her mammogram results. We knew at that moment, it probably wasn't good news. She drove over and got the diagnosis. It was a whirlwind after that. Surgery was scheduled for a few weeks later. Due to the history of many types of cancer in my mom's family tree, she did not hesitate. She opted for the double masectomy. I was able to come home for several weeks to help her after the surgery. Those weeks opened my eyes to the world of breast cancer and how grueling the recovery from surgery can be. I knew that if my mom could put herself through surgery to help give herself a better outcome, then I could manage to walk 60 miles in 3 days.
I walk for my mom, my friends and family. I walk for you, your friends and family. I walk for those unable to walk. I walk because I must. I walk because the journey demands it. I lay down my footsteps for THIS generation AND the NEXT. This is my promise.
