The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. The money raised in preparation for each event immediately goes to work funding research, providing treatment and care, educating, and saving lives.
I participate in the 3-Day in memory of my great aunt, Julia Echols, my mom's best friend and my namesake, Kim Heard, and my aunt, Kay Reininger. I also participate in honor of my elementary school teacher, Shawn Franke, and the countless others that have had, currently have, or will have breast cancer.
I was on the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Youth Corps for 3 years in a row, starting in 2012. In 2015 I walked my first event. Since 2012, I have participated in 15 3-Days and am looking forward to participating in another this upcoming 3-Day season. In 2021 I was able to return to the Youth Corps, this time as a leader. The kids I work with inspire me and remind me why breast cancer needs to come to an end.
I have been participating in the 3-Day for over half of my life. I hope that one day I won't have to, because breast cancer will be gone, but until then, I'll continue in the fight for a world without breast cancer!
Please find a way to donate, either your time or money, to help end breast cancer!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Kim Curtis
