In 2019, fresh off of turning 40- I went in for my first mammogram not knowing what to expect - the doctors were reassuring - “oh we need more scans”- “it’s nothing” - “this is totally normal”…. Well it turns out it wasn’t normal - and the biopsy confirmed it - IDC- invasive ductal carcinoma, left breast, cancer- breast cancer. This rocked my world but I quickly educated myself, leaned on my friends and family for support and came up with a plan! A plan that involved surgery and radiation! After a successful yet a bit dramatic surgery, the tumor was out but proved to be slightly more aggressive then what was previously anticipated which meant chemo was recommended. With the love and support of my family, friends and coworkers- I completed 4 rounds of chemo followed by a month of radiation and 5 years of monthly shots and pills. My world was rocked but my life was not over! I knew the 3 day community was behind me every step and that is why I keep walking!
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
