Dearest Family, Friends & Neighbors:
Since completing the 2024 Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60-Mile Walk for Breast Cancer in September last year, a dear friend's only sister, Heidi, tragically passed away far too young from cancer. She was an amazing & beautiful woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother & friend and will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
Soon afterward I learned of a neighbor's dear friend passing from breast cancer, and not long after that another close friend's friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Shortly thereafter, yet another longtime friend's sister's breast cancer returned as metastatic stage 4 after 3 years in remission and she is currently undergoing treatment. Each of these heartbreaking events happened within a span of 6 months.
I recently attended a Major League Baseball game where during the pre-game festivities each of the player positions was honored by individuals fighting cancer. What stood out to me was that of the 9 positions being represented, 3 of them had undergone treatment for or were currently fighting breast cancer. That seems like a highly disproportionate percentage!!!
These are my encounters with breast cancer since October of last year. I think everyone I know has been touched somehow someway by this horrible and unrelenting disease. Either someone they know has since lost their battle with breast cancer, is currently fighting breast cancer or has thankfully survived breast cancer.
Because of these tragedies, I am again accepting the challenge of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer – this year in Dallas, Texas in October, with my fierce team leader, mentor and friend Carla. Last year on our 3-day walk in Denver we were blessed to have met an amazing woman from Rhode Island who has since joined our team and will be reuniting with us in Dallas. Additionally, two local friends have also joined our team as has my dear sister-in-law in Texas and one new member’s sister-in-law from the Boston area. Now a team of 7, we've named ourselves HEIDI'S ANGELS in honor of the passing of the above-mentioned friend's sister and we will all walk together this October in Dallas. All wanting & fighting for the same cause from different parts of the country.
Do to your amazing generosity, last year I raised over $10,000 to fight breast cancer. This year, although I am not attempting to set any records, I am again humbly asking for your support in my efforts to raise money to bring breast cancer awareness and provide resources and treatments to those in need as well as research for a cure. Any small donation would be greatly appreciated. You all have been amazingly generous in my past efforts and I ask you for your thoughts and prayers as I embark on this challenge of walking 60 miles over three days for this great cause.
NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!
With much gratitude and appreciation.
