It was May 2003 when I received that dreaded phone call from my doctor. You have cervical cancer. For a moment my world stopped. What am I supposed to do? I had husband that I adore and 2 young boys, who needed me. You replay that moment over and over in your head. Then you step up and make the hard decisions. For me it was a hysterectomy. I was lucky, my cancer was all contained. We had caught it very early and it had not spread. No further treatment was required, except annual monitoring. Fast forward to 2013 and I found a passion, a place to call my why. I found the 3-Day. I was going to walk 60 miles over 3 days for breast cancer. I lost my grandmother to this awful disease, after her 3rd reoccurrence, and I was now a cervical cancer survivor. You, my friends and family, stepped up and helped me reach my goal to raise $2300 that year and you have supported me for the last 11. Thank you for your amazing support for me and this trek over the past 11 years. I’m sure that there are many of you who still think that I’m out of my mind for walking 60 miles over 3 days!! You are really the foundation to my success. Together we have RAISED over $50,000. My wish is that you all could (or would) walk with me. What a time we’d have!!. Every time I hear someone say, “I have cancer, or my wife/sister/friend has cancer.” I say, “This is why I walk”. I know how it feels to hear that sentence from your doctor, I was lucky and now I want to be able to be the inspiration to all those fighting this terrible disease to keep fighting and to take it one step at time. Because everyone deserves a lifetime. ®.
Thank you from the bottom of my feet for your support!! You are my Hero's!!
