Back in 2021, I made the decision that Chicago 2022 would be my last 3day adventure. I have walked/crewed/raised funds every year since 2006. My husband was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's, and I wasn't sure what the future would hold for us as a couple. He has been My Rock. The Holder of the String to My Balloon, allowing me to go wherever the wind would take me, and always keep me safely grounded. With this diagnosis, I know our time together will become more challenging and I want to be present for him, as he has always been for me.
When I informed him of my decision to step away, he became very quiet, uncharacteristically silent and withdrawn. When I pushed him, he told me that this decision hurt him. He told me that by walking away, I was dimming my light, and taking away the spark that gave light to his world.
I reflected on this statement for quite a while. I knew that I would miss my Pink Family terribly, but wanted to be available for whatever adventures would come our way.
After many heartfelt discussions, I have decided that although fundraising and training for the role of 3day walker was in my past, the new adventure of 3day Crew Member was now something I am ready to take on. 2023 in Chicago was a journey of stretching my comfort zone to reach new levels of personal accomplishments. And now, on to San Diego in November of 2024!!
Although I never really left, I'm back and stronger that ever!!!
