My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2022 after a routine mammogram. This was a complete surprise, as as felt great and could not feel any lumps or bumps. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) is a “sneaky” cancer that grows in such a way that it is not easily detected. Cancer had taken over her entire breast and spread to her lymph nodes and she had no idea it was there. My mom had a double mastectomy in November and followed by radiation, Verzenio, and 10 years of medication to minimize the risk of recurrence. Thanks to advances in therapies and treatments her prognosis is great.
You may know that my mom is a little crazy when it comes to endurance challenges (Ironmans, biking across the country, etc.), and cancer has not changed that. She was forced to scale back for a couple years as she endures side effects from medication, but she CAN walk. That being said, I was not surprised when she called me asking if I wanted to walk 60 miles with her.
My mom and Heidi Johnson are two of the strongest, most amazing, women that I know. I want to do my part in spreading awareness and giving back, so nobody else's mom has to go through what they have. Thank you for your help!
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
