After quite an exciting 2023 that culminated in August with the wedding to the man of my dreams, things were looking up. It was an amazing time filled with love, family, fun, and just a bit of stress. The wonderful experience was largely made possible by my mother Heidi. For months she painstakingly planned every detail down to the last boutonnière. However, just a week after returning from our honeymoon, we got the terrifying news that my mom had breast cancer. Not exactly what I pictured to be dealing with during the first weeks of married life! As she got more testing, we were so lucky to find that her cancer was caught early and was relatively treatable. Still, despite the early diagnosis, this is nothing any person should have to endure. As she finished up her radiation and rang the cancer free bell last month, I was overwhelmed with joy and relief to know that we can expect her to be around for many more years to come.
That is not the case for too many people who watch the most important women in their life struggle to fight against this awful disease. I walk so every mother can be around to see their daughter's wedding day, boobs and all!
