I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2022 after a routine mammogram. This was a complete surprise, as I felt great and could not feel any lumps or bumps. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) is a “sneaky” cancer that grows in such a way that it is not easily detected. Cancer had taken over my entire breast and spread to my lymph nodes and I had no idea it was there. I had a double mastectomy in November and followed by radiation, Verzenio, and 10 years of medication to minimize my risk of recurrence. I am lucky. Thanks to advances in therapies and treatments my prognosis is great. I am also fortunate because I am supported by a loving spouse, family, friends, and co-workers.
You all know that I am a little crazy when it comes to endurance challenges, and cancer has not changed that. I have needed to scale back for a couple years while I endure side effects from medication, but I CAN walk. So walking is what I will do!
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. I am walking alongside my son, a friend who is currently going through cancer treatment, her daughter and a loving co-worker. Together we are walking for those who cannot walk and raising money to end breast cancer forever.
