Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
I first took up the cause of walking the 3 day back in 2008 when my friend and co-worker Michelle was diagnosed with Stage 3 IDC. Michelle was only 28 years old and had no family history or risk factors. We lost Michelle in January of 2012 at the age of 32.The last conversation I had with her she asked me to promise that I would continue to walk until we had a cure.
I have honored that promise the best I can by signing up each year since. I have walked, I have crewed and I have fundraised.
In the years since I first joined the cause I have lost other friends, and I have seen too many others get the diagnosis we all dread. "Cancer". My grandmother was diagnosed in her 80's and now in her 90's is a survivor.
My son Riley has seen me walk since he was 2 years old. At 18 now he has also taken the flag and been a 4 time Youth Corps member (3 in Philly and 1 in San Diego) and is planning on walking with me. He had a teacher battle. A football teammate lost their mom during the season when they were only 9 years old.
We will not give up!
