This walk in Boston will be my 10th breast cancer walk since 2007.
For me, the breast cancer crusade is a very personal one. My Grandmother, (Mable Mayovsky), Mother (Margaret Steichen), Aunt (Cleo Mikkelson), Mother in law (Doris Miller Golumbeski), and MANY of my dear friends have battled breast cancer and are inspirations to me in the fight against this cancer.
In addition, in 2018 I too was diagnosed with breast cancer and survived the 1.5 year cancer treatment journey. A great part of my psychological therapy had been the physical training for my first 3 day 60 mile (20 miles per day) walk which took place in November of that year. I walked some 272 miles just in preparation.
The actual 3 day walk was cathartic because in addition to supporting a paramount cause, over the years these walks have been personal pilgrimages. I have been enriched by many aspects: walking in different cities, meeting new people, walking with them for a few miles at a time learning about why they are walking and for whom. The sharing of this experience with strangers who become instant friends for the moment, become transformative memories for me for my lifetime. I am always a better, richer, stronger, kinder person at the end of these miles than I was at the beginning.
Please know that whether you make a donation or not, if you have someone for whom you would like me to walk, please send me their name. I will add them to the list that I literally carry with me and know that I will carry them in my heart, every step, every mile.
with 50 Shades of Gratitude,
Jes Golumbeski
