2024 will mark my 20th year walking in the Susan G Komen 3-Day for a Cure. My passion to help find a cure will continue until we live in a world without cancer. I am so very grateful to all of you for your support and love and hope you will consider a donation again in 2024.
Why I walk - In 1997, I was diagnosed with Stage 3b triple negative breast cancer. After a modified radical mastectomy, 6 months of chemo and 35 rounds of radiation, I was cancer free. 1998 began our Susan G Komen involvement when we created Robb's Ralliers and started to raise funds and awareness as we participated in the Twin Cities Race for a Cure. We've continued to participate every year since! In 2004, I had the opportunity to walk in my first 3-Day walk and was committed to doing more in the fight against cancer. In 2005 after my 2nd walk, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer again, but this time, it was caught early. Surgery and recovery slowed me down, but it also fueled my commitment. I am blessed to be a survivor and do not take life for granted.
As a survivor, I have had the privilege and honor to meet so many amazing survivors who have followed a similar path as mine. I have also met many wonderful fighters who are no longer with us, but who left a permanent mark on my heart, and I will forever walk in their memory. Every year, I find someone to dedicate my walk to, while also keeping all those touched by this horrible disease with me as well.
My 2021 walk was dedicated to my dear friend TC who was facing her stage 4 diagnosis with grace and strength. TC inspired me to be my best, bringing a positive approach to every day. My 2022 walks were dedicated to her memory as we lost TC on December 11, 2021. I was honored to be her friend and look forward to continuing to make an impact toward research and funding, as well as raising awareness in TC's memory. My commitment to finding a cure was strengthened again in 2023, as my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in August. I'm thankful that early diagnosis led to a less invasive journey for her - she will always be my hero. And then in the Fall of 2023, my friend Kassie was diagnosed. She bravely faced her diagnosis and is now a beautiful survivor. While I am saddened by the new diagnoses, I continue to hold onto hope that the progress being made is making a difference!
In 2024, I plan to walk all 4 events - New England (August 23 -25), Denver (September 27-29), Dallas (November 1-3), and San Diego (November 15-17) - 240+ miles! If you've been thinking about walking, please reach out. I'd love to share stories and help you with your journey.
I am forever grateful for the continued support, and I know I couldn't do this without you. I walk so my daughter doesn't have to hear the words "You have cancer", I walk because I can't walk away, I walk for a CURE!
Always keeping the FAITH!
