Not all who know me, will know my story on why participating in my first Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk is such an honor.
30 years ago, I was in the middle of planning my wedding. We would soon learn that my "Nana" had been delivered the news, "it's breast cancer". While I don't know specifics, what I do remember is that we were told is it was a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer with no known cure. She would pass just 24 days after watching her only grandchild get married.
In the years that have followed, there have been many family members and friends who have fought against breast cancer. Some have won the battle, some have not. I want to do my part to raise not only awareness but raise funds that support the research to fight against breast cancer.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest appointment. is It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
