5 years ago today I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.
What happened next was a whirlwind of doctors' visits, a definitive course of treatment followed by 10 months of hard work. Looking back on those days, I know I was blessed; blessed because of the research that had been done that gave me great confidence in what my doctors recommended.
Today, I am healthy, take a daily hormone blocker to greatly reduce the incidence of recurrence and have regular check-ups and scans. This regime is also well researched.
The work that Komen funded in the past made my outcome possible. That is why I walk!
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye.
And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
