MY STORY
In 2001, at the age of 41, I was diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer, stage IIIB. Later that same year, my only sister was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Our maternal grandmother was a 35+ year breast cancer survivor at that time. Needless to say, breast cancer has had a significant impact on my family. After six months of surgeries, chemo, and radiation, I began training for my first 3-Day walk which coincided with the one year anniversary of my diagnosis. It was an incredible experience that challenged me, humbled me, and created my addiction for walking! Over the years I have met many incredible people, with even more incredible stories. and I look forward to making more new friends in 2024.
I've signed up for two 3-Day events again this year. The DFW walk will be November 1-3 and the San Diego walk will be November 15-17. Of course, I'll need your support again (mentally, physically, and financially). This will be my 14th and 15th time participating as a 3-Day walker. For those of you that aren't familiar with the Komen 3-Day walks, the participants walk approximately 20 miles a day for 3 days. That's 60 miles! I also must raise a minimum of $2,300 for each event. That's a total of 120 miles and $4,600. So I need your help. Please donate what you can and help spread the word by sharing my story (and website) with your family, friends, and co-workers.
BREAST CANCER'S EFFECTS
This year in the U.S., it is estimated that 330,000 women and 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,000 women and 530 men will die from breast cancer. Early detection and more effective treatments have resulted in a 43% decline in breast cancer deaths since 1989. Since its founding, the Komen foundation has funded more than $1 billion in research and provided more than $2.3 billion in funding for screening, diagnostics, education, treatment, and support groups. The U.S. now has over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors. I am part of those improving statistics and I'm doing everything I can to improve those statistics even more. How about you?
Please support me as I once again take on this incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer by making a donation, because everyone deserves a lifetime.
